Thank you to everyone who came out on a stormy morning to
participate in our last scheduled meet of the 2008-09 season. The rain finally eased around 11:00 AM and we
started the meet at 11:30 just as the skies cleared and bright sunshine bathed
the park. Unfortunately, the park trails
were now swamps and nearly impassable where chewed up by the horses. Nevertheless, the spirits were high and
everyone was anxious to be on their way.
From the Start, about 1/3 raced to a horse trail heading north and then west,
another 1/3 took to a horse trail heading east and 1/3 headed north on a gravel
road. Ninety minutes later, after having
sloshed through the trails much of the time, nearly everyone returned on the
gravel road.
There were 27 individual/group entries. Although noone was able to gain the maximum
possible 600 points, Jason Plunkett came close with 580. He was 5-6 minutes late and thus incurred 60
penalty points to realize a net of 520.
In second place was Joe Barrett with a net score of 500 points. The complete results are posted elsewhere.
Many thanks to my helpers at the meet: Nick Hockman for refreshments and traffic
control; Reta Rowe for registration
(advanced and at the meet); Tom Hanley
and Mike Shifman, both of whom helped with the finish and control pickup.
